Piles Surgery
Introduction To Hemorrhoidal Diseases
Hemorrhoids or piles are enlarged blood vessels within the anal canal. These are common problems that affect about 50% of the general population. While most remain small and have no symptoms, others may cause bleeding and pain, leading to discomfort and inconvenience.
Fortunately, there are effective therapies for hemorrhoids. Patients in Singapore may undergo treatments, such as piles surgery, with less pain, allowing them to recover faster and return to their normal activities in a short period.
Current Therapy For Hemorrhoids
The right therapy depends on the severity of the condition.
1st Degree | Simple diet and lifestyle modification often resolves the problem. Doctors may prescribe medications, such as Daflon. Specialists may also use rubber band ligation to control large 1st degree hemorrhoids. Piles surgery in Singapore is not necessary during this stage. |
2nd Degree | Patients can still avoid piles surgery at this stage. The key is to avoid constipation and straining by increasing intake of fluids and dietary fibers. Doctors may still prescribe Daflon and rubber band ligation. |
3rd Degree | The patient is experiencing advanced prolapse. Doctors often require PILES SURGERY to treat the condition. |
4th Degree | The patient is suffering from extreme pain. Doctors often perform immediate PILES SURGERY for 4th degree hemorrhoids. |
Types Of Surgery For Advanced Hemorrhoids
Conventional Hemorrhoidectomy
Before specialized surgical instruments were available, conventional or traditional hemorrhoidectomy is the standard procedure for this condition. Surgeons remove the hemorrhoid through open skin incisions, resulting in external wounds.
Although most surgeons prefer performing newer surgical techniques, this type of piles surgery remains useful in single solitary prolapses.
Stapled Hemorrhoidectomy
To perform this procedure, surgeons use a special surgical instrument. As they perform the surgery entirely within the anal canal, there will be no external wounds, resulting in less pain and faster recovery.
Stapled hemorrhoidectomy is the standard procedure for this condition, as it fixes the prolapse efficiently.
Surgeons perform the piles surgery as a day procedure in Singapore, which means patients do not need to stay in the hospital to recover.
Transanal Hemorrhoidal Dearterialization (Thd)
Surgeons use a Doppler ultrasound device for this procedure to locate the feeding artery of the hemorrhoid precisely. The artery is then suture ligated.
As no cutting or stapling is involved, this procedure is far less painful than the conventional or stapling technique. THD is ideal for patients who bleed repeatedly in spite of pharmacotherapy and rubber band ligation.
Health care specialists do not recommend THD for prolapsed type of hemorrhoids, as the recurrence rate is high.
Other Methods
New energy devices, such as En-Seal, Harmonic Scalpel, and Ligasure, deliver the same amount of cutting and sealing effect as conventional diathermy with lower collateral tissue damage.
With a reduced amount of charring and heat dispersion, there is less collateral damage to normal tissue, leading to lesser pain. This is a good alternative for selected patients suffering from hemorrhoids.
